Volunteer New York! Is Calling On Companies To Get Involved

For the last 10 years our region’s volunteer connector agency, Volunteer New York! has hosted their MLK Day of Service event on the Saturday before the MLK National Holiday.

The purpose of this National Day of Service is to create an action day that passes on the message of Dr. King as well as “to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a ‘Beloved Community.’”

Over the last three years there has been a serious effort made to grow the number of volunteer opportunities available to local Rockland residents, with this year being the largest to date with over 100 open volunteer slots.

“MLK Day is about giving your time as service to others, just as preached by Dr. King. We encourage all local businesses leaders and teams to join us this year in Rockland in support of these efforts,” said Tony Fasciano, Director of Communications, Volunteer New York!. “This is how we can honor Dr. King, do some good together, and pass on his legacy to the next generation,” Fasciano continued.

There are also many noted benefits for businesses that come with increased employee engagement and volunteering as a team outside of the office, which include opening up channels of communication (breaking silos), leadership training, and increased employee retention and productivity.
