Clear Your Calendars Fashionistas: It’s Time For A Runway In Rockland.
Rockland Fashion Week, a first-time venture in the county, draws to a close this Saturday with a fashion show and fundraiser at Kirkbride Hall, Stony Point at 6:30.
The event is the brainchild of fashion designer Hope Wade of Hope Wade Designs. Wade, a Pomona native, says “Rockland needs a showcase for its local designers.”
Wade, a finalist in Project Runway, has brought together six designers for Fashion Week: Fredlyne Burns of La Painture, Sandra Szpicek Leylegian of The Things I Love and AnnMarie Jameson of Elite Repeat. One of the international designers is Jenelle Reid of Topaz Couture of Canada. Rockland Fashion Week featured pop up shops at Elite Repeat in New City and Oluh Hair in Spring Valley.
Fashion Week is being launched at a cocktail party tonight sponsored by Wide World Ferrari.
Special celebrity guest Darlene Love will be at the launch, as will legislators Toney Earl and Aney Paul. Hope designed the red flute gown Darlene wore last Christmas on the David Letterman Show singing her famous son Baby Please Come Home, which was inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Museum last year.
RFW’s fundraiser will give an emerging designer or senior fashion design college student a scholarship for manufacturing garments or sample designs to present to retailers.
Hope Wade designs have strut the runways of London, New York and Caribbean Fashion Weeks. In June 2019 Hope Wade Designs was selected to represent Jamaica at Caribbean Fashion Week for their international collaboration with Nigeria. Last year, Hope Wade Designs won the Alpha Academy Alumnae Association Woman of Excellence Award. Wade also designed the gown for Miss World pageant in China worn by Khadijah Robinson Miss Jamaica last year. January 2016 Wade was invited to present her designs in Pecha Kucha 20×20 with Rosie O’Donnell in Nyack NY.
