4 in 5 Americans oppose any cuts to Medicaid. 89% of Americans believe that funding to Medicaid should be kept the same, or increased.

This letter is in response to your article, Lawler Misses Chance To Connect With Rattled Rockland Residents In Town Hall Sunday Afternoon – Rockland County Business Journal published on April 28, 2025.
Congressman Mike Lawler’s town hall in Rockland County on Sunday, April 27 was met with frustration and anger from his constituents both inside and outside the event. These outcries are to be expected as Lawler has misled constituents by promising not to cut Medicaid. However, his votes and slippery language about “eligible recipients” says otherwise.
Let’s be clear: everybody deserves health care, and Medicaid remains popular with Americans. Polls show that 4 in 5 Americans oppose any cuts to Medicaid, and 89% of Americans believe that funding to Medicaid should be kept the same, or increased.
Any cuts to Medicaid will harm our community. Medicaid is especially a critical source of health care coverage for women, who account for a majority of all adult enrollees. The program covers family planning services such as birth control, STI tests and treatment, and cancer screening, as well as pregnancy-related services. Over 50% of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic’s patients are Medicaid recipients, and Planned Parenthood health centers across the country see a similar trend. Lawmakers must protect health care and reject all efforts to cut Medicaid and other publicly funded health care programs.
