Automated Enforcement Is Not A Money Grab; The Police Can’t Be Present Everywhere

By Daniel Convissor

People who drive dangerously have long decried any type of enforcement as a “money grab.” Automated enforcement, like the recently adopted school bus stop arm cameras, really boils such drivers’ blood because it is enforcing laws in far more places than police officers could ever be at any given time.

The bus camera fines are the same as if a police officer gave you a ticket for it, while the fines for red light and speed enforcement cameras are generally lower than if ticketed by the police.

Local officials approve each violation. Wait times for hearings are a matter of local court capacity. The technology vendors can’t be blamed for these problems.

Here’s one simple trick to beat traffic fines: follow the law.
