Rite Aid Plans To Shutter All Hudson Valley Stores Including Valley Cottage Location

Rite Aid, a pharmacy chain with one location in Rockland County on Route 303 in Valley Cottage, will be closing or selling all of its 178 New York locations: Rite Aid said the business will begin Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings for the second time.

Rite Aid plans to shutter or sell its New York locations, including 16 in the Hudson Valley, throughout Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, and Ulster counties.

Rite Aid, sources said, is in active discussions with multiple potential buyers; however, any stores or assets sold will no longer be owned or operated by Rite Aid.

In a release issued last week, Rite Aid said it is “pursuing a strategic and value-maximizing sale process for substantially all of its assets. To facilitate this process, the company and its subsidiaries commenced voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.”

Rite Aid customers can continue to use pharmacy services and products in stores and online, including prescriptions and immunizations.

“The company is working to facilitate a smooth transfer of customer prescriptions to other pharmacies. Rite Aid employees assisting with this process will continue to receive pay and benefits,” the release said.

“For more than 60 years, Rite Aid has been a proud provider of pharmacy services and products to our loyal customers,” said Matt Schroeder, CEO. “While we have continued to face financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes in which we operate, we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirers. As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible.”

To support Rite Aid during its sale process, which it intends to conduct under section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, the company has secured commitments from certain of its existing lenders to access $1.94 billion in new financing, the release said. That financing, along with cash from operations, is expected to provide sufficient funding during the sale and court-supervised process.

The company intends to divest or monetize any assets that are not sold through the court-supervised process, the release said. Rite Aid has filed a number of customary motions with the court seeking authorization to support operations, including continued payment of employee wages and benefits, the company said.

Public Invited To Countywide Comprehensive Plan Workshops; County Hosting Five Workshops For Community Input Regarding Rockland’s Future

The Rockland County Planning Department will host a series of five in-person public workshops to gather community input for Envision Rockland, the Countywide Comprehensive Plan update.

A comprehensive plan is a long-term, strategic document that outlines a county’s vision and priorities for land use, zoning, development, and growth, serving as a guide for decision-making on issues like infrastructure, housing, and economic development.

During the public workshops, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about how the Comprehensive Plan will guide the County’s future.
  • Share their ideas and priorities for what should be included in the Plan.
  • Connect with neighbors to discuss their vision for the future of Rockland County.

“Community involvement is the foundation of a strong and forward-thinking comprehensive plan,” said County Executive Ed Day. “The input of our residents is invaluable in shaping Rockland’s future and ensuring that our policies reflect the needs and priorities of the people who live and work here. I encourage everyone to take an active role in this process, whether through the website, public workshops, or community meetings, so that together, we can create a vision that benefits generations to come.”

Each workshop session will cover the same content and will begin with a short presentation, followed by an interactive open house where participants will be able to browse among stations covering a variety of topics.

Workshop materials, including a presentation, will be posted on the project website, and interactive online activities will be available to provide additional feedback. This online feedback tool will be launched concurrently with the first public workshop and will remain open for the duration of the workshops.

For questions, requests for translation, American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, or other accessibility accommodations, please email RCPlan@co.rockland.ny.us.
